Chief Anderson Retires - Deputy Chief Jenkins Interim Chief

From: Chief Anderson

Over the past five years I have had the honor of leading the men and women of one of the best fire departments in the Southeast. You, the career and volunteer members, working in all areas of the Department, perform an awe-inspiring spectrum of services around the clock, saving the lives of citizens and protecting their property by applying highly trained skills using special equipment with vigilance and bravery.

It has been my duty and my privilege to do everything possible to support you as you provide the best services with the resources available to the citizens of Columbia and Richland County.  I have been assisted by the most capable Command Staff that any Fire Chief could hope to have.  They work tirelessly with intelligence, energy, passion, compassion and creativity to help you do your jobs and to ensure your safety.

Engine 8 Coming Back On duty in March

Columbia Fire Department's Engine 8 will return to service March 1, city manager Steve Gantt said Wednesday.  The fire truck runs out of Station 8 on Atlas Road. Gantt said the truck was coming back on line because city finances had improved. Last year, the department put two fire trucks out of service, a move that saved $1.2 million, Fire Chief Bradley Anderson said. The decision to take two trucks out of service was criticized by the Columbia Firefighters Association, which argued it reduced response times. Engine 9 returned to duty at the Shandon station on Devine Street in December.

MDA Fundraising SUCCESS!!

Chief Anderson had the honor of presenting the final check for this year’s MDA Boot Drive during the telethon on WOLO.  The total amount raised this year by the CFD was $121,681.  In the 10 years that we have been involved in the boot drive, we have raised $1.35 million for this important cause.  This is impressive work by firefighters with excellent coordination by the Department’s MDA leaders and outstanding support from citizens throughout Columbia and Richland County.  We can be proud of this phenomenal success.
